CLEVELAND – During the month of August parts of Downtown Cleveland will be transformed into a movie set for Marvel Studio’s The Avengers. This will require road closures, intermittent traffic delays and use of alternate routes for motorists and pedestrians. The City of Cleveland is joining the ranks of other mid-sized American cities that are creating a new year-round economy in the film industry.
E. 9th Street from Euclid Avenue to Prospect Avenue will be closed until September 2, 2011. Additional streets will be closed during the month of August. To see the most up-to-date filming street closure schedule click here.
The Commissioner of the Cleveland Bureau of Traffic (BOT) will continue to be on scene assessing traffic patterns and is working with Traffic Engineering and Willow Security to facilitate travel as commuters decide what detour routes to take. Signage is in place along the detour routes and parking meters were “bagged” and “No Stopping” signs were posted along E. 18th Street between Superior and Carnegie Avenues. Traffic Engineering has synchronized traffic signals along the detour routes to assist incoming and outgoing rush hour traffic. The city is also monitoring changes in traffic patterns due to the Innerbelt project and will make the necessary adjustments to key locations as needed.
The BOT will be staffing normal rush hour traffic posts. In addition, Willow Security will deploy uniformed personnel at the following locations:
